Mrs. Deborah Killen
First Grade Specialist
Deborah Killen is a first grade teacher at Hayes Cooper Center in Merigold, Ms. She has been an elementary teacher for 24 years. Her teaching experience includes grades pre-kindergarten, 5 year kindergarten, first grade, and Chapter I Reading and Math in grades 1st-4th. She has a B.S.E. in Elementary Education and a Masters’ Degree in Elementary Education and Reading K-12 from Delta State University . While at Hayes Cooper she has supervised four student teachers from Delta State University. She has also participated in the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative (ECLI) in the Cleveland School District and in a pilot program with LeapFrog SchoolHouse using the Leap Track Assessment and Instruction System. In the summers of 2002, 2003, and 2004 she attended the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC). She attended the Whole Schools Arts Fall Retreat in 2002. In June 2003, she was a presenter at the Fifth Annual Improving Mississippi Schools Conference in Biloxi Mississippi along with several other teachers in the Cleveland School District.
